In a previous lifetime, before attending North Seattle Community College , and learning to chase electrons, he was a newspaper editor, photographer and humor columnist for such world-reknowned journals as:

To qualify for these austere journalism posts. Howeird attended The University of Washington in Seattle , where he majored in Communications (Radio/TV production and Editorial Journalism) with minors in Medieval History and English Lit. He also was active in their Drama program. In 1971-72 he played Baritone Horn for the Husky Marching Band , and is a life member of HMBAA, The Husky Marching Band Alumni Association. In addition to Baritone, Howeird plays most of the brass instruments, various recorders, keyboards and percussion. And he's not above playing the kazoo.
While at the UW (1968-72), he was on the staff of The Daily (one of the largest campus newspapers in the country), he was also a contributing photographer to the Tyee yearbook and put in time at the college TV station KCTS and radio station KUOW-FM . He also worked a summer at the Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO-TV .
From March 1975 through June 1977 Howeird was a
U.S. Peace Corps
volunteer in
